SEMA'S Spooky News: Tints Can Haunt Electronic Systems

Las Vegas, October, 31, 2006

On Halloween, thousands of auto industry professionals at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) trade show in Las Vegas will be the first to see a new, premium window film that won’t create interference with factory-installed and aftermarket electronics systems.  The film, LLumar AXCESS, solves the frequency interference problems that can happen with conventional high-performance automotive window films containing metallic or traditional ceramic layers.

Newer luxury vehicles often feature complex electronics systems, such as satellite radio, GPS navigation, keyless entry, remote start, tire pressure sensors, and radar detectors that will not operate properly after traditional films are installed.  The 2006 Buick Lacrosse and 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban owner’s manuals caution that aftermarket glass tinting with metallic film can interfere with or distort the incoming radio reception.  Cadillac’s Navigation System Supplement cautions that glass tinting can interfere with the system’s ability to receive GPS signals and cause the system to malfunction.  Numerous Web sites also discuss interference issues with tire pressure sensors and remote key access on a variety of makes and models.

“LLumar AXCESS is another significant step forward in window film technology,” said Kent Davies, president of Solutia’s CPFilms business, the manufacturer of LLumar  window film.  “Metallic and traditional ceramic films create a virtual roadblock for the car lover’s favorite electronic components.  As the leader in window film product innovation, we wanted to address those problems.  We engineered LLumar AXCESS to provide all of the benefits of superior window tinting without sacrificing connectivity or risking signal interruption.  When we combine innovative new products supported by best in category marketing programs with our renowned quality and technical service, we are providing our customers, dealers, and distributors with a winning combination that they can count on.”

LLumar AXCESS is developed with a patent-pending technology that creates superior performance and ease of installation without causing signal interference.  Like all LLumar  window films, the LLumar  AXCESS line provides glare reduction up to 90 percent, and solar energy rejection up to 55 percent.  The film is distortion free and comes with a factory-backed warranty.

LLumar AXCESS window film is expected to be available in Spring 2007 through LLumar’s global network of authorized dealers.  For more information on the LLumar brand of window film visit www.LLumar.com.
